WHO DO YOU WANT TO CURSE TODAY?

Got a grudge and no one to turn to for help? That's what the Jigoku Tsuushin (Hell Communication) is for. Here's a rough idea as to how this hellish service on the Internet works.

It is said that if you hate someone enough, you can go to the mysterious Jigoku Tsuushin, a website that can only be accessed at the stroke of midnight. An animated flame appears, followed by the message:

あなたの怨み、晴らします

“I will avenge your grudge,” it reads. Type the name of your tormentor into the text field below and click on the 'send' button, and if your hatred is strong enough to move ENMA Ai, she will come to you with a waraningyou -- a Japanese straw doll -- that has a red string around its neck.

"If you are certain that you want to exact vengeance, then untie the red string. When you untie the string the contract between you and I becomes binding. And the object of your hate will immediately be taken down to Hell," explains Ai.

But of course, as with most contracts, nothing comes free. Jigoku Shoujo will drag the object of your hate off to Hell only if you agree to meet her terms of the contract: that you too shall spend the rest of eternity in Hell after you die.

“But if you do exact vengeance, you yourself will have to pay a price in return. There are two holes for cursing someone. When you die, your soul shall descend into Hell. Unable to reach Paradise, it shall wander for eternity amidst pain and suffering. The choice is yours to make.”

You're given a brief -- and terrifying -- glimpse of how what awaits you in Hell if you seek your revenge. Or course, you can always back away from the offer, but should you choose to go ahead with it, untie the string and the doll will vanish into thin air, followed by the eerie echoes of an old man murmuring: "Your grudge has been accepted...."

And with that, Ai springs into action as Jigoku Shoujo. Clad in a kimono instead of her usual sailor uniform, she and her three waraningyou (Ichimokuren, Honeonna, Wanyuudou) will proceed to take their victim off to Hell. Depending on how guilty he is, they may first put him through an ordeal in accordance to his crime, before Ai whisks him away to Hell after delivering her famous lines: "Oh, miserable shadow wrapped in darkness; karmic soul who hurt and pour contempt on others, drowning in sin... Won't don't you die for once?"

So your grudge is avenged, whoever you hate is now no longer in this world, and perhaps you'll go on to lead a peaceful, if not blessed life. But the Jigoku Crest (地獄紋) is now etched upon your chest. And it will remain there until the day you die -- a constant reminder that you once cursed someone to Hell, and when you die, it's your turn to join him in Hell for eternity....
